Mark Nicewicz, Esq. is an experienced trial lawyer in state and federal courts in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area with over 19 years of experience. He has aggressively and successfully represented hundreds of clients in a broad range of cases involving criminal and traffic defense, personal injury and business litigation. Mr. Nicewicz did his undergraduate study at Marquette University where he was a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He went on to receive his law degree from the highly acclaimed University of Virginia. In addition to being a successful civil and criminal defense litigator, Mr. Nicewicz has provided advice to a large number of small businesses on matters relating to formation and operation of the business, including contract review and preparation of business documents. Mr. Nicewicz prides himself on his reasonable and affordable rates and the personal attention he devotes to all client matters.

Mr. Nicewicz has obtained many significant settlements and verdicts. In a product liability suit against a well known foreign bicycle manufacturer, he obtained a substantial settlement on behalf of his client who was severely injured when the front wheel of his bicycle fell off. In another personal injury case, Mr. Nicewicz obtained a jury verdict for compensatory and punitive damages on behalf of his client who was assaulted outside a nationally recognized restaurant franchise by the manager of the restaurant. Mr. Nicewicz is also a well respected criminal and traffic defense attorney who has obtained favorable plea agreements and verdicts for many clients on charges such as reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, possession and distribution of drugs, assault, larceny and other property crimes.

Mr. Nicewicz has an extensive trial practice. Consequently, his hours vary considerably based upon his trial schedule. As a general rule, his office hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. He will also occasionally schedule client visits on Saturdays. Mr. Nicewicz charges a flat fee for most criminal misdemeanor and traffic matters. Traffic Defense cases such as DWI and Reckless Driving are usually charged at a fee from $500 to $1500, as are misdemeanor criminal defense cases. For most felony criminal defense and business litigation matters, Mr. Nicewicz charges an hourly rate of $200.00 and requires an initial retainer of generally $1000-$5000. Sometimes, Mr. Nicewicz will agree to a slightly smaller retainer if the client has financial difficulty paying the retainer. Personal Injury cases are generally taken on a contingent fee basis equal to One-Third of the recovery of settlement or verdict. There is no fee in personal injury cases unless there is a recovery. Mr. Nicewicz requires, however, a retainer for litigation expenses (i.e filing fees, service fees, deposition costs, copies, postage, expert fees) in all personal injury actions. That retainer is usually $500-$1000. The client is ultimately liable for all expenses no matter the outcome of the litigation. Mr. Nicewicz's fee for business formation is $125.00. All other fees are to be negotiated with the client.
